When you think sand beaches and some good sun, you probably think it has to be the coastal region. I’m here to tell you it doesn’t have to be. In case you are looking for a get away with sun, sand, breeze and not in the coast, I present to you Takawiri Island. Set on Lake Victoria, the serene place is open to the public and is accessible by boat. By road, you will have to get to Mbita and then take a boat to the island. If by plane, you can fly in to Kabunde Airstrip in Homa Bay and then call for a pick up from the resort.
The magic of Takawiri island is the fact that it possesses the coastal vibe; the palm trees, the white sandy beaches and the clear blue water.
While at the island, apart from lounging around doing a lot of nothing or getting a tan, you have the option to;
I mean there is a water body right there…you probably want to question safety and all but that is not what you were thinking when you swam in that river when you were ten. Take a dive and enjoy the water.
The lake is home to an array of aquaculture, and you can have a field day. It’s a great idea to go fishing, if you do not know how to do it, you can get help. Learn something new.
Accommodation in the cottages costs around Sh 12,000/$120 per person on full board, and while the resort can sleep about 10, the number can go up to 18 if you don’t mind sharing. For a cheaper option, bring your own camping gear.
