Union Berlin will be playing in Bundesliga for first time in their club history when they take on RB Leipzig on 18 August.
The club on its maiden season in the Bundesliga is embarking on a campaign dubbed “finally there” to celebrate Union loyal fans who have supported the club on its way to promotion and are not around to witness this iconic experience.
On that match day the club will allow fans to bring banners celebrating late friends and relatives who are not there to see the club’s success.
Their supporters’ dreams became a reality on 27th May 2019 when they beat VfB Stuttgart on away goals (2-2) over two legs in the relegation/promotion play-off to secure a promotion to the Bundesliga.
The club made the following statement:
“All of them are sorely missed, and so the idea was born among the Union family to commemorate them with a special campaign. The “finally there” campaign was launched by the group Alt-Unionern together with the fan club Eisern V.I.R.U.S. and the Eisernen Botschaftern and can be implemented thanks to the support of vierC print+medienfabrik.”
Fans can have a banner created with an image of their late relatives or friends for €13 the same price as a standing ticket at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. These banners will be 70*70cm and made of fire and tear resistant fabric.
In four weeks’ time when they step on the field at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei to play RB Leipzig Union will be the 56th team to compete in the Bundesliga.
