World Cup winner, Ballon D’Or and double Fifa World Player of the Year, Brazilian superstar and now Betika brand ambassador Ronaldo de Assis Moreira, alias “Ronaldinho Gaucho”, is in Kenya for 3 day tour courtesy of Betika in partnership with Extreme Sports, organisers of Super 8 league.
Ronaldinho who officially retired from football earlier this year, having not played professionally since leaving Brazilian side Fluminense in 2015 will hold a football clinic Kisumu. Football fans in what is regarded as the cradle of Kenyan football will have the chance of a lifetime to interact with the legendary star as he is expected to open a Betika shop. While at it, Ronaldinho’s trip is set to inspire football from the grassroots and maybe help Kenyan footballers achieve the dream of playing the 2022 World Cup.
Apart from the tour in Kisumu, Gaucho is expected in the Capital to watch the 2008 Kenya Premier League Champions Sofapaka play against former Kenyan football legends at the Barclays Club in Ruaraka.
During his senior career, Ronaldinho made a total of 441 appearances and scored an impressive 167 goals. On an international level , he played 97 matches for the Brazil National team, scoring 33 goals and representing his country in two FIFA World cups. On November 19th 2005, after scoring two spectacular solo goals in El Clàsico, Ronaldinho became the second Barcelona player, after Diego Maradona in 1983, to receive a standing from Real Madrid fans at the Santiago Bernabéu.
