Last year left me and quite frankly a litany of the OGs fans wondering how AFRIMMA didn’t recognize all this Rap Excellence we had. Then this year they came through with not one, but two nominations! As a bona fide Khaligraph Jones fan, I’m happy to announce that Baba Yao did not let us down. Yaaas! Your favorite rapper is now Africa’s Best Rap act. And there’s an AFRIMMA to show for it.
The Testimony 1990 rapper announced his victory via an Instagram post that was captioned “GLORY BE TO GOD”.
After emerging victorious from a pool of what is arguably Africa’s Finest rappers, the likes Olamide, Zoro and Phyno from Nigeria, Sarkodie from Ghana, Namibia’s Tha Dogg, South Africa’s Casper Nyovest, Shane Eag and Nasty C and MHD from Guinea.
What else is there to say? Ngori juu ya Ngori!!
In other news, Papa Dennis won Best Gospel Artist of the year while Ugandan Eddy Kenzo emerged the winner, East African Artiste of the Year shaming Diamond Platnumz and Alikiba among others. Yemi Alade walked away with the best female artist of the year as Wizkid bagged the Song of the year Award for his hit song Soco
